RedR UK provides training and technical support to NGOs, aid workers and communities responding to natural and man-made disasters all over the world. Our expert support ensures that those responding to humanitarian crises - whether or not they are professional aid workers - have the skills to do so safely and effectively.

We also work in partnership with international and national NGOs, UN agencies, academic institutions, think tanks and the private sector to improve emergency response at a global level. Since our founding in 1980, we've responded to many of the major disasters the world has faced, including the 2004 'Boxing Day' tsunami, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the recent Ebola outbreak, and the ongoing Syrian crisis.

RedR UK is also a Membership organisation: we have a global network of 1,800 Members, all of whom are experienced humanitarian professionals. RedR Membership is a mark of quality, enabling aid workers to obtain professional recognition of their skills and experience.

The Role

The post holder will be responsible for oversight of a portfolio of 3-6 diverse and complex projects which cover the full project management cycle and will alter as projects close and others are initiated. The Programme Manager will be responsible for a high proportion of ongoing business development, through seeking new funding opportunities so that the Enterprise and Funded Programmes team continues to deliver capacity development projects that meet the needs of the humanitarian sector. At present, the portfolio consists of two main project/ programme streams. A team of Project Coordinators and Officers hold responsibility for project implementation and the role of the Programme Manager is to ensure the smooth delivery of these projects. Ultimate accountability for the projects rests with the Programme Manager.

The two project/ programme streams are:

HMG framework contract training - RedR UK have been delivering Programme Management training for HMG since 2012. We currently deliver the DEAP (Delivering Effective Aid Programmes) for FCO delegates working within the Joint Funds Unit (JFU). JFU is made up of the Conflict Security and Stabilisation Fund and the Prosperity Fund.**

Mission Ready– this is a recently completed project funded by USAID and DFID which provides a high-quality fully immersive simulation on-line training course related to security. It is accessed by users through the sale of licences sold either to an individual or in bulk to organisations. It is transitioning to a more commercial proposition.**

Person Specification:

Essential:

• RedR UK Commitment - Commitment to RedR UK, its vision, principles, strategy, policies and processes.**
• Humanitarianexperience - A minimum of 5 years’ recent experience in a humanitarian context preferably with some experience of working in a field-based position in a key technical area such as DRR, Shelter, WASH etc., and a sound appreciation of humanitarian frameworks and principles, and the range of personal and technical issues facing relief workers**
• Project Management– A minimum of 5 years’ experience of managing large and complex projects, budgets and preferably of managing a collection of projects concurrently, throughout the project cycle**
• Use of Technology - Experience with current software for project management and relevant tools and techniques that support good project management, along with databases such as Salesforce, learning platforms such as Moodle and Microsoft office skills**
• Relationships and Representation - Used to building successful strategic relationships externally with organisations and key individuals, and internally to achieve good results; tactful and diplomatic; able to represent RedR UK externally, and to develop networks and maintain these from a distance**
• People Management - Experienced line manager of staff, consultants, volunteers and interns; able to coach and improve staff performance and manage annual staff appraisals**
• Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning - Used to developing good quality monitoring and evaluation processes to generate relevant data, capture learning and the impact of projects**
• Team working - Able to promote a positive team culture, troubleshoot problems, boost morale, manage expectations and work flexibly to achieve optimum results**
• Communication - Excellent interpersonal and team skills including tolerance and flexibility, inclusive and good self-awareness**
• Work planning - Ability to manage workload, prioritise, delegate and work effectively to tight deadlines with a minimum of support**
• Qualifications - Post-graduate in related subject such as Humanitarianism or International Development and suitable project management qualification**
• Donor Management - Knowledge and experience of working with institutional donor funds e.g. ECHO, Europe Aid, USAID, or DfID and voluntary funding streams.**
• Financial - Experienced in managing large and complex projects, budget management from building budget forecasts to revising and tracking budgets and reporting on variances using relevant finance software**
• Initiative - Identifies problems, seeks information and creates shared solutions, and able to work independently**
• Travel - able and willing to travel within the UK and to international destinations as needed, sometimes to insecure and difficult environments for periods up to 2 weeks, and to follow RedR UK security management procedures**

Desirable:

• Learning and Development - Demonstrable competence in and experience of capacity development projects including on-line, face-to-face training and blended learning methods; able to deliver training on humanitarian topics, ideally with a learning and development qualification**
• Commerce– some experience of transitioning projects from donor funded period to an ongoing viable business stream of funding**
• Event management - Experienced in leading, planning, organising, delegating, marketing, delivering and evaluating successful adult learning events**
• Languages - Fluency in a language other than English e.g. French, Spanish, Arabic**
