FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

Job Title Financial Controller (FC)

Purpose:

To work with CEO, the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and other teams, monitoring and reporting the current financial position, and assisting with decision making through the compilation of financial and cash forecasts.

The FC is responsible for the preparation of financial reports and the reporting of current financial position, including cash flow and the preparation of budgets and forecasts. The FC has responsibility for the ledgers and the integrity of the information produced by the accounting software and the finance team.

Working with:

Colleagues across the organisation, Trustee Treasurer, suppliers, customers, auditors, banks, regulatory bodies and other external contacts as necessary

Location:

Hybrid working. Work in the office when work needs dictate, at 91-94 Lower Marsh, London SE1 7AB

Post:

100% Period Permanent

Salary:

£50,000 to £56,850

ABOUT THIS ROLE

RedR UK has offices in both London, UK, Amman, Jordan and a dormant presence in Sudan. It is able to open new offices in different locations in response to humanitarian emergencies. Our staff work in hybrid mode and are located in many countries worldwide with our main shared office workspace located in London Waterloo and an office in Amman. Our Associate Trainers (consultants) are also based globally. This role provides financial oversight and coordination of all offices while ensuring all controls are maintained. It is necessary to work in multi currencies, and a variety of methods of payment.

The FC role requires working with the SLT on monthly management accounts, cashflows, annual budget planning and quarterly forecasting. The successful candidate will also work with other members of the teams in the Charity to help prepare financial information for bids to funders. In addition, the FC will review projects to confirm financial outcomes and will assist project managers preparing end of project reports for funders.

The role is responsible for the preparation and production of financial statements, including all supporting schedules and reconciliations, and will be the primary contact with external auditors in both the UK and Jordan. The role requires a sound understanding of Charity accounting regulations and the ability to work with the auditors to ensure a clean audit. Financial reporting extends to required regulatory reports in all countries in which the Charity is active, and other ad hoc requirements, such as preparing documentation to support due diligence enquiries from financial institutions.

The Accounts Administrator reports to the FC and as such, this role is responsible for ensuring their support and development.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities Financial Reporting

  • Prepare consolidated Financial Statements in accordance with Charity SORP FRS 102
  • Own the relationship with the external auditors and ensure that all external audit requirements are met
  • Responsible for overseas branch financial records, including audit
  • Prepare returns for HMRC for Charity and Limited Company
  • Work with SLT and business teams to prepare UK and overseas regulatory annual reports

Financial Control

  • Responsible for policies, procedures and the internal controls around all accounting matters
  • Responsible for ensuring strong controls over restricted reserves
  • Oversee bank reconciliations and all other reconciliation processes across the Charity
  • Oversight of payroll processing in UK and overseas
  • Oversight of accounts payable process including overseas payments
  • Responsible for management of multi-currency transactions and accounts
  • Responsible for intercompany accounts
  • Oversight of accounts receivables

Management Reporting and Budgeting

  • Prepare monthly management reports and cash flows
  • Analyse and discuss variances to budget and/or forecasts with business teams as well as the Trustee Treasurer
  • Work with SLT and business teams to prepare annual budget and quarterly reforecasts
  • Work with business teams as required on bid submissions, to review projects, and on end of project reports

Compliance/Regulatory

  • Coordinate reports for Charity Commission/Companies House
  • Liaise with overseas regulators on relevant topics
  • Liaise with overseas legal advisors to ensure compliance with local legislation

Management

  • Member of the SLT
  • Attend the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee (FARC) of the Board
  • Manage staff – the Accounts Administrator, responsible for Accounts payable
  • Own the relationships with the external auditors and the banks, and liaise with other external stakeholders as necessary
  • Take on any other ad hoc financial reporting, project or other requirement as appropriate

Skills Required

  • Extensive experience and understanding of accounting for Charities
  • Relevant accounting qualifications preferred
  • Strong budgeting and forecasting experience
  • Good knowledge of Quick Books and Excel. Experience with ‘Fluidly’ cashflow forecasting application would be a bonus
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with others in a constructive way
  • Honesty and integrity are essential
